I finished hemming this quilt at St. Andrew's this past Tuesday. It has embroidered blocks in it. The quilters make three or four each year. NOTE: I did not do the embroidery, set it together or help hand quilt. I do the hemming and enjoy the fellowship of being with the quilters each week.

VA Quilt Top

My Pfaff sewing machine was
released from Topstitch Hospital
yesterday. It was so nice to have
my favorite features available to
put the borders on this colorful
VA quilt top. Isn't it an eye-catcher!

First Full Day of Spring in Callaway County

Here is the view of our driveway about 11:00 this morning when we came home from church. I didn't get any sewing done today, but we did get our taxes done! YES!

Sewing a Skirt

In December of 2009, I bought
three yards of pretty polyester satin fabric at JoAnn's in Columbia for 90% off the regular price of $10/yard. Today, the time had come for me to sew it. I wanted to wear it tonight to a dance in Westphalia where a German Band will be playing. By 3:00 pm. the weather had become
wintry, so I nixed that thought. I sewed this slippery fabric on my old Singer 401A. The gored skirt hid the imperfections of sewing without the dual feed of my Pfaff which is still in the "hospital." It may be interesting to know that I bought this skirt pattern at the Quilt Show at Lewis & Clark School.

Trip to Topstitch

Yesterday, I took my Pfaff to the sewing machine doctor. He expects to it to be discharged within a week. Of course, Timothy tried unsuccessfully to send me home with a new Bernina 440QE. He made me a really good trade-in price. One of the things I would have to give up is my built-in walking foot. Also, the throat plate on this particular model is only 5.5 mm wide. My Pfaff has a 9 mm opening, which is great for the embroidery stitches.
We had another great Guild meeting last evening with lots of show and tell, both from the Retreat and from the members attending this meeting.
BTW, I was enjoying the landscape and drove directly through JC on Highway 54 South. Just before I got to Highway 17, it dawned on me that I should have gone through Russellville. I took the next highway north which actually took me to Russellville, where I continued as originally planned. This little side trip through pretty farming country only added 12 miles and 20 minutes. Oh well, it was an overcast day that made for a pleasant drive.

A Small Project

I sewed a small SNAP bag. I am happy with its appearance. Because it was tiny and my ruler was one inch wide, I was unable to sew inside seams. Instead, I bound the edges. I plan to make a larger one and sew across the bottom so it will open up better.

My VA Quilt Project

I was fortunate to get to the charity sewing event early enough to select a very cheery kit to assemble. Betty had carefully cut and packaged four quilts. All I had to do was sit down at my machine and sew and sew, that is, until my Pfaff quit. Sharon Dunn came to my rescue and let me use her Pfaff for the rest of the day. Yesterday, I used my Featherweight to begin assembling the blocks as seen in the picture.

Charity Quilts

I joined fourteen gals to sew quilts for the veterans at the VA Hospital. This event was organized by Betty Lock and held at the Coke Building. This truly was a fun and rewarding day.

Yesterday was a busy day!

I typed a story for my friend, Dorothy, for her Creative Writing class. She wrote about traveling to Nepal. In the afternoon, Ed and I joined our 6th grade grandson for Grandparents' Day at St. Peters School. In the evening, I had a really fun evening chatting with good friends and learning more about blogging.

I finished sewing points on a quilt that I plan to donate next spring to the Evening with the Bishop, a diocesan fund raiser to support vocations. It was in the 60's and we went walking again. Of course, the walk was followed by naps!

Friday, March 5, 2010

It's another warm sunny day with the temperature in the 50's.

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

Today it was sunny and warm enough to go walking outdoors.
