I truly enjoyed making this doily. It is unlike any I have ever done before -- eight points. The Irish roses were easy, however, the last round required my undivided attention. It was made with No. 10 bedspread cotton and a size 7 steel crochet hook. It measures 13 inches across the points. It was so much fun to make that I would enjoy making it again, however, I would like to use a slightly larger thread.
I have my doily where I need to finish off a lot of tails, then it will be ready for the final border, which conists of just two complicated rounds--not something to do in a moving vehicle! I hope to complete it this weekend.
This is such a fun project that it is difficult to put it down! I did two sides and then a corner to see how well it would fit together. I have already worked in ten tails and willl have ten more when it is finished. This design is just challenging enough to be delicious!
I liked the Sunflower Doily with its eight sides so much that when I found this pattern, I just had to try it. The red doily was made with No. 3 thread. This one is being made with No. 10 thread. It will not be very big. I wish now that I had made it in Knit-Cro-Sheen. It will be interesting to see how complicated the four separate sides will be. It may be a long time before I get this one finished because there is no long road trip in my future.
Here is the "Sunflower" doily that I crocheted on our Denver trip. I happened to find this pattern on the Internet the day before we left. I had this ball of red thread in my stash, so I used it. I found this pattern at: crochetncrafts.com
My favorite color is RED. I enjoy various crafts. My favorite is crochet. I have been crocheting since I was old enough to hold a crochet hook and make chains with the string from sacks of chicken feed. Over the years, I have sewn clothing for myself, my husband and five children. I have done macrame, oil painting, acrylic painting, and presently, I am enjoying knitting again.
